We've already covered one of New York's favorite Downtown photographers, Tim Barber, for his innovation in bringing fresh new talent to us through his photography hub Tinyvices.com, but Barber has now taken his efforts to the market with the launch of his new independant online bookstore, TVBooks.
Featuring some of New York's favorite Downtown artists and photographers like Gordon Hull from Surface2Air and underground fashion maven Julia H. Burlingham (Barber's current belle), TV Books allows some of Tinyvices stars to publish their works independantly, and through the hands of a careful curator. Barber has had his Tinyvices show in ten galleries worldwide and recently sat on the NY Photography Festival panel.
We talked to Tim about what prompted the bookstore. "I wanted to have a venue where I could showcase photography and artwork that I was excited about. At first it was kind of an extension of my job with Vice, an extra outlet for stuff that didn't or couldn't make it into the magazine. It was more of a standard blog at the beginning too, with party photos and all that, but over time it evolved into a more focused gallery and curatorial project."
Barber has helped promote many local artists and photographers including Aurel Schmidt, Peter Sutherland, and Mark DeLong. Make sure you pick up some of these books before these artists hit Deitch Projects and we miss the chance to catch them pre-Art Star.
