This week Adidas will launch a new shoe designed in collaboration with Downtown New York's own Chinatown Soccer Club. The CSC crew is a group of 'artists, photographers, designers, writers, skateboarders and all-around good people' that meets year-round for soccer matches every weekend. The weekly games began six years ago after Adidas sponsored a soccer tournament between various Downtown magazines, stores, and other creatives on the rooftop of the Chelsea Piers.
CSC consists of a crew from around the world including England, Germany Israel and Brazil, interspersed with New Yorkers like artist Ryan McGinness, skate legend Mark Gonzales, and Chinatown local Laijon Liu who wrote prose about the culture of this very special group of players and what it brings to the local community. Photographers Peter Sutherland and Gerhard Stochl, the latter of whom is the official coach of the team, have both documented the team. Arkitip magazine ran a story about the CSC. From Adidas:
'Housed in a box that is custom designed by the CSC, the packaging includes specially created tissue paper and a printed CSC booklet. The booklet showcases the club’s history and is published to celebrate the occasion of the CSC x Adidas shoe collaboration.'
A limited edition run of 350 pairs will be released for $100.
